Show 50 Hiking Rewards points Enjoy an enchanting evening of theatre under
the stars at The Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s 23rd Annual Shakespeare
in Centennial Park. "Love's Labor's Lost is a witty romantic comedy about
four young men who take an oath to dedicate three years to strict study\, r
enouncing the distractions of love and the company of women. But on that v
ery day\, four beautiful women show up\, and nature takes her course! Focus
ing on the theme of “the birds and the bees\,” the play will be set in the
late 19th century: bustles and tail coats\, gloves\, fans and whimsical hat
s will make the show look like a Victorian Valentine. Adding a layer of phy
sical comedy\, the actors have studied birds’ courtship rituals in order to
incorporate the distinctive bobbing\, strutting and fluttering of birds in
to their performances. The show features original music\, with the violinis
t taking on the role of Cupid. This show will delight all ages with colorfu
l\, animated characters\, clownish antics\, romance and ridiculousness in t
he pursuit of love!" Bring chairs\, blankets\, and food to eat. We will me

SUMMARY:The Fiery Gizzard Project - Fundraising Hike Series - Strenuous Hik
 e
DESCRIPTION:Nashville Hiking Meetup\n\nMeeting Time: 7 AM Meeting Place: Hi
ckory Hollow Target Estimated Drive Time One Way: 1.5-2 hours Hike Distance
: 10 miles Estimated Hike Time: 6+ hours Difficulty: strenuous with lots of
rock hopping on the way out Kids welcome\, as long as they can handle the
terrain Leashed dogs welcome 250 Hiking Rewards points Join us for a speci
al fundraising hike series to benefit The Fiery Gizzard Project! We will be
hiking the Fiery Gizzard once a month for six months\, to raise funds and
awareness for this worthwhile project. The Fiery Gizzard trail is a perenn
ial favorite of the Nashville Hiking Meetup. This beautiful trail contains
the best features of Tennessee hiking: a rocky gorge\, rapids and waterfall
s\, and a gorgeous high-cliff lookout with expansive views of a forested go
rge. The scenery cannot be beat on this one\, and it always earns rave revi
ews from hikers. The Land Trust for Tennessee now has a special opportunity
to purchase 6\,200 acres of this area\, which would otherwise be in danger
of logging or commercial development\, destroying the views that make this
trail such a treat. Cost to hike is a minimum $10 donation and 100% of p
roceeds will benefit The Fiery Gizzard Project. Visit their site if you wis
h to donate more\, or donate even though you can't make the hike. Our guest
naturalist for the September hike will be Randy Hedgepath. This is a st
renuous 10-mile loop. We will hike in the "easier" direction\, going out on
the Dog Hole trail for a moderate 4.8 miles to Raven's Point\, where we wi
ll take in the view and have lunch. After that\, we will descend steeply in
to the gorge. For the next two miles\, the trail is exceedingly beautiful\,
but this is also the section that really earns the designation of strenuou
s\, due to the rocky\, slick and tricky terrain. Basically\, you will jump
from rock to rock for almost two solid miles – very tiring! The final 2.5 m
iles of the hike are more moderate\, though still somewhat rocky. But as a
final reward\, the trail here winds past several cascades\, waterfalls and
swimming holes. Bring a bathing suit and swim shoes if you want to take a d
ip! Please be prepared for this long\, hot hike with plenty of water (at
least two liters per person)\, snacks and lunch. Also\, due to the terrain\
, ankle-high boots are strongly recommended. With the terrain of this hike\
, the drive\, swimming\, and optional dinner after at Crust Pizza\, plan fo
r this hike to take the whole day (up to 12 hours from departure to return
to Nashville). We'll meet at Target and arrange carpools\, or meet us a
t the trailhead: Take I-24 East about 75 miles from Nashville and exit at
Exit 134 (Monteagle) Turn right off of exit ramp and pass back over the in
terstate Go about 1.2 miles and turn left onto Hwy 41 (be sure you've gone
at least a mile before turning - there is another Hwy 41 just after the in
terstate\, and that goes in the wrong direction) Drive about 4.5 miles into
Tracy City and turn right onto 3rd Street (you'll see a sign for Fiery Giz
zard). This turn is next to the Electric Office Building The road winds j
ust over a mile to the trailhead - there are a couple of turns so drive slo
wly and watch carefully for "Fiery Gizzard" signs. Trail map We will star
t at the north parking lot of Grundy Forest Natural Area and hike to Raven
Point via Dog Hole Trail. The loop then descends down along the creek. \n\n

SUMMARY:Mossy Ridge Trail at Percy Warner Park
DESCRIPTION:Nashville Hiking Meetup\n\nHIKE STATS: Meeting Time: We'll be
hiking promptly at 5:30 pm. Meeting Place: Deep Well trailhead of Percy War
ner Park Hike Distance: 4.5 total miles Estimated Hike Time: 2 hours Di
fficulty: Moderate Hike Leader: LaRae Notes: Dogs on a leash okay\; Sunset
is at 6:45\, so bring a flashlight or headlamp!!! The Mossy Ridge Trail i
s the longest of the three loop footpaths in the Warner Parks. It is the qu
ietest and least used loop as well. An ideal training hike\, the path leave
s the Deep Well trailhead and winds through rich hollows and dry ridges of
the Harpeth Hills\, making frequent but never sustained elevation changes.
Scattered in the woods are big trees and a spring-fed waterfall. At 4.5 mil
es\, the Mossy Ridge Trail qualifies as a full-fledged hike that will not d
isappoint. If it weren't for some park road crossings and a little road noi
se from the highway\, hikers could be in a remote swath of Middle Tennessee
back in the days when Nashvillians traveled by horse. You will be travelin
g by foot in cove hardwood forests and along hickory/ oak/cedar ridges in P
ercy Warner Park\, where the hiking rivals any city park in the country.
