Beat the heat and head for the shade on Long Hunter's wild and rocky Day Loop Trail. We will be keeping an eye out for summer wildflowers, songbirds and shorebirds, rock formations, majestic trees, and other unique flora and fauna that call Long Hunter State Park home. There are impressive views of Percy Priest Lake from high atop the Day Loop bluffs, so you might also want to bring along binoculars.

Keep in mind that this will not be a "fast" hike; we will be taking our time and stopping frequently as we attempt to identify and discuss some of the flora, fauna and geological wonders found along this meandering trail. Feel free to ask questions during the hike.

Make sure you go to the Day Loop/Volunteer Trail entrance just north of the main park entrance.

Since this is a nature hike, no pets please. Kids are welcome.

I did this hike later the same day, and we swam quite a bit. There are some lovely cliffs where you can access the water from the trail and scramble and play. I'll be doing this one again!

I didn't hear until too late that I was off the waiting list. Hopefully I'll be able to catch this one next time.
